Six monochrome plates worked in ink, clay, and graphite, each returning to the same question of surface and silence.
Layered Ink
Seven passes of diluted sumi ink, each drawn vertically and allowed to dry before the next, until depth appears without any single dark mark.
Scraped Clay
Ground clay bound with hide glue, troweled across the panel in horizontal bands and scraped back while wet to expose the ground beneath.
Pencil, Repeated
Thousands of short graphite strokes drawn at a single angle across primed linen, until the hatching thickens into a breathing grey field.
Pressed Field
A regular grid of short graphite presses, each mark made by the same downward pressure, until order and human unevenness sit together on one plate.
Ink, Pooled
Diluted ink flooded onto a level panel and left to dry undisturbed, so evaporation alone decides where the darkness gathers.
