Hull Sensor Arrays

[sensors] [science]

The Outer Hull Sensor Array coordinates all passive and active scanning operations, providing the vessel with detailed environmental data. The array consists of three main sub-units: the gravitational wave scanner, the infrared spectrometer, and the radio frequency receiver. These sensors feed data directly to the navigation computer to chart asteroid paths and warp trajectories.

The main sensor grid is situated on the forward sensor platform, protected by a thin carbon-composite deflector plate to minimize thermal damage from particle impact. Calibration routines must be executed after every warp jump to correct for sensor drift caused by warp field contraction. These calibrations are managed by the science console.

When scanning unknown planetary bodies, the crew can activate the high-resolution spectral scanner to detect chemical signatures in the atmosphere. This system operates at high power and requires primary reactor energy, so all planetary scans must be coordinated with the reactor officer on duty to prevent power fluctuations.
